Baljeet Kaur is an Indian mountaineer from the state of Himachal Pradesh. She was born on 29 November 1995 in the village of Palashta Panjrol, Tehsil Kandaghat, District Solan, Himachal Pradesh. Baljeet Kaur’s father’s name is Amrik Singh; he is a bus driver with the Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation. Her mother’s name is Shanti Devi, and she is a housewife. Additionally, she has two siblings. Baljeet studied in the village school and balanced her studies with farming and household chores. Many achievements of Baljeet Kaur in a short period are important for India. Hoisting the Indian tricolor on Everest is one of his achievements. She also conquered five 8,000-meter peaks in less than 30 days, making her the first Indian mountaineer woman to do so.
She completed her education at Government Higher Secondary School and joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) while still in school. Baljeet’s first mountaineering experience occurred during an NCC camp. At 20, she was selected for an NCC expedition to Mount Dev Tibba. In 2015, she participated in an expedition to scale Mount Trishul with a 10-member NCC mountaineering team. Mount Trishul stands at a height of 7,120 meters.

Baljeet Kaur embarked on her Mount Everest ascent on May 17, 2022, at 10 am. After just five days of strenuous effort, she fulfilled her dream, having attempted the climb twice before. Additionally, she conquered the 7,161-meter Mount Pumori near the Nepal-Tibet border. Baljeet Kaur also became the first Indian woman mountaineer to successfully summit the 8,167-meter Mount Dhaulagiri. The first Indian women mountaineer to summit the Pumori Peak on 12 May 2021 and climb Mount Dhaulagiri on 1 Oct 2021. First Indian to scale Mount Annapurna and Mount Kanchenjunga in 14 days. Baljeet Kaur’s Mount Annapurna Story
Baljeet Kaur’s name made headlines when news of her disappearance spread. She went missing while returning from conquering Mount Annapurna, the 10th-highest peak in the world. Enduring for about 19 hours in the snow, she fought with death. Baljeet reached the Annapurna Peak with two guides at around 5:15 pm on Monday but went missing on her return to the base camp due to breathing difficulties. Contact via radio signal was lost, but on Tuesday morning, she managed to send a signal indicating her proximity to Base Camp-4. She requested immediate assistance, and upon reaching Base Camp-4, she was airlifted to Kathmandu Hospital in Nepal. After her condition improved, she was transported back to Himachal Pradesh. The rescue operation, initiated based on her GPS location at an altitude of 7,375 meters, involved three helicopters. She was found around 1 pm. Upon her safe return, Baljeet expressed gratitude to everyone, attributing her safety to their prayers and blessings from God.
