Thakur Ram Lal was born on 7 July 1929 in Shimla. He was educated in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. He has four daughters and one son. And his wife was a housewife. Ram Lal ji was a resident of Jubbal-Kotkhai, Shimla. Thakur Ram Lal was an Indian politician. And as a leader of the Indian National Congress from Himachal Pradesh. He has made a huge contribution to the Congress party in Himachal Pradesh. Late Ram Lal was elected to the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly nine times between 1957 and 1982 from the Jubbal-Kotkhai constituency. He struggled a lot in his life and achieved a very good position. His grandson Rohit Thakur is today the Education Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh
Late Thakur Ram Lal was the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, he was succeeded by Late Virbhadra Singh (Raja Saheb). When Thakur Ram Lal became the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, he had to face many difficult circumstances. He briefly served as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from January 28, 1977, to April 30, 1977. Ram Lal again assumed the post of Chief Minister on February 14, 1980, and remained in office till April 7, 1983. Despite facing opponents, there was a wave of Congress in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections of 1977. He secured 60.2 percent votes in Jubbal-Kotkhai. However, the Congress party was reduced to 9 seats from the previous 53 seats.
He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly from June 29, 1977 to February 13, 1980. He was forced to resign as Chief Minister in January 1983 due to the conviction of his son Jagdish Thakur for timber smuggling. His government was accused of turning a blind eye to the large-scale illegal logging operation run by Jagdish Thakur and Mast Ram Tounta.
Governor of Andhra Pradesh
Ram Lal has also been the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. On 15 August 1983, he was appointed the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. However, even there he faced some problems. During his tenure, a controversy arose when Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao was in the United States for surgery. Ram Lal Finance Minister N. Appointed Bhaskar Rao as Chief Minister, even though Bhaskar Rao did not have the support of more than 20% of the MLAs. Upon NTR’s return, he launched a popular campaign against Ram Lal and the Congress Party, resulting in President Zail Singh dismissing Ram Lal on August 29, 1984, and re-appointing NTR as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
