    Jai Ram thakur

    Jai Ram Thakur is an Indian Politician. He was born on 6 January 1965 in Tandi Village in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. He was born into a farming poor family. Late Jethu Ram Thakur was his father he was a mason and Briku Devi is his mother.

    Earlier Life and Education

    He has two sisters and three brothers. Purnu Devi and Anu Thakur are his sisters and Biri Singh, Anant Ram, and Veer Singh are his brothers. He completes his primary education at the Government Primary school in Tandi. In 1987 he completes his graduation with B.A from Vallabh Government College, Mandi. And after he did his M.A. from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He spent his childhood in acute poverty.

    Political Carrer

    He start his Political Carrier in 1986 during his graduation. And he became the Joint Secretary, of Himachal Pradesh Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. From 1989 to 1993 he became an Organizing Secretary of the ABVP in Jammu and Kashmir. And from 1993 to 1995 he is a State Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He was elected first time to State Legislative Assembly in 1998. And he was re-elected in 2003 and 2007 from the Chachiot assembly constituency. But after the delimitation, the name has been changed to Seraj. From 2003 to 2005 he served as the President of the Bhartiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha. The year 2009 he was inducted into the Council of Ministers. Rural development and Panchayati Raj, Portfolio have been given to him. And in 2012 he was re-elected for the fourth time to Legislative Assembly.

    Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh

    The fifth time he was re-elected to Legislative Assembly was in 2017. Considering his strong political profile and RSS Connection he became the first Chief Minister from the Mandi district. And became the Sixth Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. Soon after taking oath as the Chief Minister, Jairam Thakur reduced the age limit of old age pension from 80 years to 70 years, giving gifts to the elderly in the first cabinet meeting. And Showing seriousness about women’s safety, the government started the Gudiya helpline and Shakti Button to curb crimes against women on the occasion of full Statehood Day as soon as one month’s working period is over.

    On 30 June 2022, he launched the “Narri ko Naman” Scheme. The aim of this scheme was to fifty percent concession for women who travel in HRTC buses within the state. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the “Apna Kangra” app at Dharamsala. The main focus of this app is to provide a hassle-free experience for tourists and boost the sale of local handicrafts. In 2022 BJP lost its legislative elections and he resigned. But the Governor asked him to stay in his post till the new Chief Minister was elected. He stepped down from his post on December 11 when Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu became the Chief Minister.

    Family

    In 1995 Jai Ram Thakur Married ABVP colleague Dr. Sadhana Thakur.
    Dr. Sadhana Thakur was born to a Kannadiga family in Jaipur. They have two daughters Priyanka Thakur and Chandrika Thakur. Both are Studying for MBBS in Himachal Pradesh. The elder daughter studying at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, and the younger daughter was selected to Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Ner Chowk in the year 2018.
