    Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu – Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh

    Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu is the 15th and current Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. He belongs to the Indian National Congress and has represented the Nadaun constituency as an MLA since 2003.

    Born on 27 March 1964 in Bhavarna village, Nadaun (Hamirpur district), Sukhu studied law at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. After working as a lawyer for a few years, he entered politics. Known for his strong leadership and administrative skills, Sukhu is considered a popular leader who aims to take the state in a progressive direction.

    About Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu

    • Sukhu joined the Indian National Congress in 1984.
    • He was elected to the Nadaun Municipal Council in 1992 and became its Chairman (1994–1996).
    • In 2003, he was elected to the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the first time.
    • He has held several positions in the Congress Party, including President of HPCC (2013–2019) and Chief Whip of CLP (2007–2012).
    • In the 2022 Assembly Elections, Congress won 40 seats, BJP 34 seats, and with the support of two independent MLAs, Sukhu was sworn in as Chief Minister on 11 December 2022.

    Vision as Chief Minister

    • As CM, Sukhu has focused on education, healthcare, tourism, and employment.
    • Education & Healthcare: Announced new schools, hospitals, free education for girls up to 18 years, and recruitment of more doctors and nurses.
    • Tourism: Plans to develop new tourist spots, improve infrastructure, and provide better facilities to attract more visitors.
    • Employment: Launching new industries, youth training programmes, and schemes to encourage self-employment.

    Major Initiatives (2024–2025)

    • Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Start-up Scheme
      – Financial support for youth to start businesses.
      – Promotes entrepreneurship and reduces unemployment.
    • Himachal Pradesh Green Energy Initiative
      – Focus on hydropower, solar, and green hydrogen.
      – Goal: Make Himachal the first “Green State” by 2035.
    • Himachal Pradesh Milkfed Modernization Project
      – Modern plants in Mandi and Kangra.
      – Farmers receive better prices for milk and dairy products.
    • Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojana
      – Support for orphans and destitute children.
      – Free education, housing, and financial aid until adulthood.
    • Road & Tunnel Projects
      – Work is ongoing in Shimla, Mandi, and Kullu.
      – Focus on tunnels and highways to improve connectivity and tourism.
    • Himachal Pradesh Electric Vehicle Policy
      – New charging stations are being set up.
      – Subsidies on electric vehicles to reduce pollution.
    • Tourism Infrastructure Development
      – New projects in Kangra, Shimla, and Kinnaur.
      – Ropeways, ecotourism, and homestay schemes are being expanded.
    • Health Sector Improvement
      – MRI and CT scan machines installed in government hospitals.
      – Super-speciality services added in Shimla and Hamirpur.
    • Education Modernization
