Gambhir Devi was born in 1922 in Bandla village of Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. Gambhir was a veteran Indian folklorist, folklorist, and dancer. she had a great contribution to the folk culture of Himachal Pradesh. she started performing his art at the age of 8. Like other girls, she was also married early. At that time girls were married early. Gambhir Devi was barred from performing music, dance, and drama after marriage. But she did not give up and stuck to her art and culture.

People started liking their art of her very much and gradually forgot the stigma attached to him. And started inviting them to perform at different functions. No ceremony was considered complete without their performance. When Devi performed, she was accompanied by a drummer and a wrestler. It is said that the wrestlers used to like the Gambhari. In today’s language, the wrestler and the Gambhir Devi started to love each other. but At that time, society did not accept such pairs. Legally at that time, they could never marry. In such a situation, later the Gambhari abandoned her love. And at the request of the Gambhari herself, Basant Pahalwan later married another woman.

She won many hearts through his extraordinary courage, singing, and dancing qualities. Received Achievement Award from Himachal Kala Academy in 2001. Gambhir Devi was awarded the Tagore Academy Award by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2011. The Tagore Academy Awards were given to 100 artists from across India for their contribution on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary. , And she died on 8 January 2013 at the age of 91.
