Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area located in the Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is named after Renuka ji Lake, which is believed to be an incarnation of the Hindu goddess Renuka. It has been formally declared as a sanctuary and is spread over an area of about 4.028 square kilometers. Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary
Renukaji Zoo was started in 1957 with rescued, stray, and deserted wild animals and is the oldest zoo in Himachal Pradesh. Now it is home to a variety of animal species and many people come to visit it. These include leopards, sambar deer, barking deer, Indian giant squirrel, langur, and many species of birds. The name of the first animal brought here was Moti which was a spotted deer. And Nilgai and Blackbuck were brought to Renuka Zoo from Pipli Zoo. A pair of mittens were brought from Arunachal Pradesh, gifted by the Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi in 1985. A pair of lions were brought to the zoo from Junagadh in 1975.
The vegetation in the sanctuary includes a mix of tropical and sub-tropical forests. You can find shrubs and grasses as well as trees such as sal, khair, cymbal, chir pine, and oak. The landscape of the sanctuary is characterized by hills, valleys, and streams, which add to its natural beauty.

The distance between Paonta Sahib and Renuka Ji by road is approximately 43 km. While traveling from Paonta Sahib to Renuka Ji, you can consider multiple routes. Start at Paonta Sahib and head northwest on NH707. And keep on NH707 till you reach Dadahu Village. From Dadahu, take the Dadahu-Renuka Road, which leads directly to Renuka Ji. Please note that road conditions and directions may vary, so use a GPS navigation system and follow the road until you reach Renuka Ji, where you will find Renuka Lake and Wildlife Sanctuary.
