Murang village is a small, picturesque village located in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The village is situated on the banks of river Satluj and is known for its ancient fort and temples. Moorang Fort is a major attraction of the village. The best time to visit the village is during the summer months when the weather is pleasant, and the gardens are in full bloom. The village is surrounded by apple orchards and terraced fields which add to its beauty. The distance from Shimla to Murang village is approximately 235 km. And it may take around 8-9 hours. You can go from Shimla to Rampur then to Reckong Peo and from there to Moorang village. It is not advised to visit this place during the winter months when the roads are affected by snowfall.

About Moorang Village

This village is built on a hill in front of the Sutlej River. And it is said that the fort in this village was built by the Pandavas during their exile in the Mahabharata period. The fort is now in ruins, but it still holds charm. There are also some ancient temples in the village.The most famous of them is the Urmig Temple dedicated to the local deity Urmig. The local people are mostly engaged in agriculture and horticulture, and the village is known for its apples, apricots, and walnuts. The culture of Kinnaur is very different but the fun of visiting here is something else. Thousands of people come here to visit and enjoy the culture here. Kinnaur is considered the adventure spot of Himachal.

Places to Visit Near Moorang Village

There are many places to visit near Moorang village of Kinnaur. Kinnaur Kailash Peak is visible from Moorang village and can be reached via trek. Kalpa is located about 20 km from Moorang and is known for its spectacular views of the Kinnaur-Kailash range. Sangla Valley has located about 40 km from Murang village and is known for its apple orchards, traditional Kinnauri architecture, and the Baspa River flowing through it. Chitkul is located about 60 km from Moorang village and is the last inhabited village on the Indo-Tibet border. There are a few hotels and guesthouses in and around Moorang village. Hotel Mountain View in Pooh, Hotel Apple Pie in Reckong Peo, and Hotel Rakpa Regency in Kalpa.
